Chemicals in photoresists

Every electronic device manufactured by semiconductors undergoes a photolithography process. These photoresist coatings consist of a combination of film-forming agents and photosensitive chemicals. The most commonly used film-forming agents belong to the cresol phenolic resin class. As for photosensitizing chemicals, most manufacturers prefer to use naphthoquinone diazides.

Silicon wafers are thin sheets of silicon crystals used to manufacture integrated circuits (ICs) and other semiconductor-based microdevices. These wafers do not pre-exist in our environment; they are actually made from silicon dioxide (sand) and then further processed until they form the final shape of a wafer.
