          Information

Ranitidine is used to treat stomach and intestinal ulcers and to prevent them from coming back after they have healed. This drug is also used to treat certain stomach and throat (esophageal) problems. It works by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach. It relieves symptoms such as cough, stomach pain, heartburn, and difficulty swallowing.

          Mechanism of action

Ranitidine, like other H 2 blockers, inhibits the stimulation of histamine on the cells of the stomach lining, thereby reducing gastric acid secretion. Ranitidine increases the pH of the stomach. It has a longer duration of action, 4 to 10 times stronger than cimetidine. The half-life of ranitidine is longer than that of cimetidine, resulting in less frequent administration of ranitidine.
In addition, because of its anticholinesterase activity, ranitidine increases lower esophageal sphincter tone and acts as a prokinetic agent. In humans, dose reduction is recommended for patients with renal azotemia.

          How to take

Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually once or twice a day, as directed by your doctor. For some conditions, it may be prescribed 4 times a day. If you take this medicine once a day, usually after dinner or before bedtime.
Measure the dose carefully using a measuring spoon or a special spoon provided by your pharmacist. Do not use a household spoon, or you may not get the correct dose.
The dose and duration of treatment depends on your medical condition and response to treatment. In children, the dose may also be based on body weight. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. You may take other medications (such as antacids) to treat your condition as recommended by your doctor.
Take this medication regularly to get the most benefit. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. Do not increase your dose or take it more often than prescribed. Do not stop taking it without your doctor's approval, as this may delay the healing of the ulcer.
If your doctor has instructed you to use this medication, your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring your condition. Do not start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine until you have consulted your doctor, healthcare provider, or pharmacist. Some drugs may interact seriously with ranitidine, such as atazanavir, erlotinib, ketoconazole, and mesalazine. If you have health questions or concerns, talk to your doctor.

          Precautions

Symptom relief does not exclude the presence of malignant tumors in the stomach. If you are taking the medicine because of stomach problems and your condition does not improve after taking the medicine for a period of time, you may have a tumor, please go to the hospital for examination.
This medication contains ranitidine. Do not take ranitidine if you are allergic to ranitidine or any of the ingredients contained in this medication.
Keep this product out of the reach of children. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical help or contact a poison control center.
Long-term treatment may result in B12 malabsorption and subsequent vitamin B12 deficiency; the degree of deficiency is dose-related and the association is stronger in women and adolescents.
There is a risk of transfer of ranitidine into breast milk; use ranitidine with caution if you are breastfeeding.
